Bond Court Frequently Asked Questions
In Jasper County, there is a centralized bond court, the office for which is located at the Jasper County Detention Center. It is at this location that all bond hearings are held. Magistrates may set bond for any all criminal matters except charges of Murder and Burglary 1st degree. There is a bond court judge on duty from 9:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. A bond court judge is on call at all times. Weekend bond court hours at the detention center are from 9:00 until 11:00 in the morning and 3:00 to 4:00 in the afternoon. The bond court judge also issues warrants for criminal offenses for citizens as well as for the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department and the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
How do I get a warrant?
You must first call the Sheriff’s Department and make a report. The Sheriff’s Department will prepare an incident report and can also determine if you need a warrant or courtesy summons.
Do you set bond on persons arrested by the law enforcement with the Town of Ridgeland and the City of Hardeeville?
No. The Town of Ridgeland and the City of Hardeeville have Municipal Judges who set bond on individuals who are arrested in those cities.
In what form can you pay bond amounts set by a judge?
You may pay bond payments with money orders which can be purchased at various locations in Ridgeland. There are also bails bondsmen who post bail for individuals. A list of bondsmen is posted at the Detention Center.
What time will bond hearings be held?
Generally, the bond court judge will hold hearings each morning Monday through Friday at approximately 10:00 a.m. On the weekends, bond hearings will usually begin at approximately 10:00 a.m., however, if there are many bond hearings to be held, the hearings may take place later. If there are inmates in need of a bond hearing in the afternoons on weekends, a judge will conduct those hearings between 3:00 and 5:00 p.m. If you need additional information regarding bond hearings and/or inmates, you may call (843) 717-3300 and ask for Booking.
