The purpose of the Building Department is to receive applications, review construction documents, and issue permits for the erection, alteration, demolition, and moving of buildings and structures. It is the responsibility of the Building Department to inspect and enforce the provisions of the International Building Code. When is a building permit required
A building permit is required for new construction, additions, alterations, repairs, roof replacement, electrical, plumbing, installation of heating and air systems, accessory structures, swimming pools, to move or demolish an existing structure, and to install a manufactured house.
The only work exempt from a permit is residential accessory structures that are less than 200 square feet, commercial accessory structures that are less than 120 square feet, fences less than 7 feet in height, and retaining walls less than 4 feet in height.
