Jasper County Fire Contracts

Jasper County Council has voted to resume providing fire protection services to the residents of the Hardeeville Rural Fire District and the Unincorporated Cherry Point Fire Districts effective July 1, 2019. Since 2005, these services have been provided by contract from the City of Hardeeville Fire Department. The County Council made the policy decision last night to resume providing these services with Jasper County Fire Rescue personnel and resources at the end of the current contract which ends June 30, 2019. Citing the desire to resume providing protection for county residents and having greater flexibility to deploy County fire protection resources as needed, the County Council felt that the time was appropriate to move away from the fire contracts, which were never intended to be permanent. Fire Rescue staff have been and will continue to plan towards resumption of uninterrupted fire and Emergency Medical Services as of July 1, 2019.
In order to provide protection to the current contract areas, Jasper County will be opening and staffing two fire rescue facilities to serve the Hardeeville Rural and Cherry Point areas. One facility will be built on Stiney Road and an existing commercial building has been purchased on Mead Road in the New River Commerce Park. Additional personnel will be hired and equipment purchased to facilitate the delivery of services.
Chairman Tom Johnson stated that; “We felt with the improved condition of the economy in Jasper County, and with the desire to assume providing services to our own residents, the time was appropriate for this change in policy. In addition, with the growth of the City of Hardeeville, we felt that their resources would be needed more to service the increasing residents within the city limits.”
