Detention Administrative Lieutenant

Duties:  Responsible for administrative duties related to the detention center. Ensures the safety and security of the detention center.

Job Tasks:

  • Supervises assigned personnel to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations. 

  • Instructs subordinate personnel; assigns work; counsels employees; resolves employee grievances; recommends transfers, promotions, salary increases, disciplinary action, and discharge as appropriate. 

  • Assumes the duties of Detention Director, Deputy Detention Director, and Captain in their absence. 

  • Assists with the security, custody, control, and classification of inmates. 

  • Supervises the booking and release of inmates. 

  • Interacts with various groups and individuals pertaining to jail operations. 

  • Oversees transportation and maintenance units for the detention center. 

  • Assists with maintaining integrity of security technology, including computers, cameras, fences, and perimeter. 

  • Inspects inmate quarters, visitors, and vehicles for contraband. 

  • Supervises inmates in the cleaning and maintenance of building and grounds. 

  • Conducts and/or supervises regular security checks of the facility.

  • Performs various administrative duties as needed by the Detention Director.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 Qualifications:  Must be minimum age 21 years. Requires:  minimum 3-5 years jail management/operations experience; SC Criminal Justice Academy Certification; previous successful experience at the Sergeant level; physical agility and ability to intervene in confrontational situations; knowledge of relevant federal, state and local laws; demonstrated supervisory experience and knowledge of supervisory principals and practices; excellent statistical skills and ability to utilize basic first aid methods and techniques.
